HPU Men Sixth In ITA Division II Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific men's tennis team closed the season ranked sixth in Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Men's Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point.
 
The Sharks (18-3) finished in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division II Tournament, and finished with a 63.884 rating for sixth, just behind NCAA II Runner-up Wayne State (Mich.) in fifth with a 63.982 rating and just ahead of NCAA II Quarterfinalist Embry-Riddle (Fla.) in seventh with a 62.065 rating.
 
HPU has two singles players and one doubles team ranked nationally in this rating. Jordi Walder continues as number two nationally in singles, with Robin Sanz up to No. 18. The pair of Jan Pleva and Walder are 13th in doubles.
 
Barry (Fla.) (22-5) is the top ranked team after winning its third consecutive Division II National Championship. Columbus State (Ga.) (21-3), a national semifinalist, is second with a 79.894 rating. Saint Leo (Fla.) (18-6), who didn't advance to the NCAA's round of 16, is third with a 72.287 rating, with national semifinalist Flagler (Fla.) (20-5) – the team that defeated HPU in the national quarters – fourth with a 68.20 rating. North Georgia (15-7) ended eighth at 54.036, Lynn (Fla.) (10-5) was ninth at 53.673, and West Florida (18-7) was 10th at 53.239.
 
In addition to HPU, the PacWest Conference is represented in the poll by Azusa Pacific at 13, Biola at 43, and Hawai'i Hilo at 44. In the extended rankings, Point Loma is 62, Metro State Denver is 64 and Concordia Irvine is 65.
 
A final release is slated for June 2.
