Men's Basketball Named Finalist of Division II Award of Excellence

Indianapolis, Indiana - The Hawaii Pacific University men's basketball team was named finalist of the Division II Award of Excellence.

Twenty-two schools were named to the list for their consistent work in promoting Division II philosophy, community engagement and student-athlete leadership. Each finalist will receive $500. Additionally the winner will receive $2,500, first runner-up $1,250 and third place $1,000. Prize money goes towards SAAC initiatives and community engagements.

HPU is the only representative of the PacWest Conference for their work within the community this past year. Activities such as working with kids was very prevalent. They held clinics, taught them about proper helmet safety, participated in reading sessions, and had talks about healthy living as they grow up. Beyond being an example for the next generation, they also volunteered at the He'eia fishpond, where they learned about and participated in local Hawaiian practices.

The national Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee selected the top three finalist, who will be announced at the Division II business session Jan, 14 at the 2023 NCAA Convention in San Antonio.
