No. 9 Sharks Beat East Stroudsburg

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Pacific University Acrobatics and Tumbling team took their first win over East Stroudsburg 262.66-224.00 on Sunday evening at the Shark Tank.
 
The Sharks (1-0) found themselves on top wire-to-wire and took every heat over the Warriors (0-1).
 
HPU found an early lead over ESU with an impressive 9.75 in the Pyramid heat of Compulsory. ESU took a hard deduction in the Tumbling compulsory scoring a 2.65 for an early HPU lead of 36.90-29.75.
 
HPU continued the dominance throughout the Acro into the pyramid event with 9.7s in all three heats. The Sharks near perfect Pyramid event helped them to a major halftime lead.
 
Continuing after the intermission, the Sharks put up more scores in the nines and started to pull away.
 
Small falters in the Tumbling event were dwarfed by the deductions from the Warriors' side with HPU winning the event 55.45-45.025.
 
The Sharks scored 84.56 out of a possible 104.96 in the Team Routine compared to the Warriors' 76.48 out of 97.85 possible to finish off their first win of the season.
 
In comparing all the events, the Sharks received 29.70 points in deductions throughout the meet compared to the Warriors' 47.25.
 
The Sharks head on the road to Texas for two meets beginning with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday, Mar. 9 at 1:00 PM HT.
