HONOLULU - The Hawaii Pacific Men's Basketball team has landed another NCAA Division I transfer, this time from Nicholls State University. The Sharks have signed Tyrease Terrell, a 6'4 guard from Slidell, Louisiana. Terrell spent the previous 4 years at Nicholls State and has 1 year of eligibility remaining.Â
Terrell played a key role for the Colonels, serving as the team captain for the previous two seasons. He appeared in all 31 games this season, starting in 4 of them. On the year, he played 9.0 minutes per game and added 1.4 points per game. He shot 37% from 3PT range on the season and was one of the top defensive players on the team. Terrell had a major impact on a Nicholls State team that won back-to-back regular season Southland Conference championships in 2020-21 and 2021-22.Â
Â
"I chose HPU because it checked all the right boxes for me. Coach Nakanishi and Coach Flabel contacted me endlessly throughout the recruiting process and made me feel like HPU was a no-brainer perfect fit for me!" said Tyrease Terrell. "Who wouldn't want to play the game they love in a top D2 conference all while getting the opportunity to live in Hawaii? I can't wait to get to the island and make a winning impact for the Sharks!"
Â
Austin Claunch, the former Southland Conference Coach of the Year who was also recently named as the newest assistant coach at the University of Alabama, had this to say about the signing, "I'm so happy for Tyrease and his family. For the past 4 years at Nicholls, he embodied everything that is right about college athletics and played a major part to our championships and overall team success. HPU is getting a servant leader, an authentic teammate, and one of the best all-around people I've ever met. Congrats 2!"
Interim Head Coach Nakanishi added, "Tyrease will be an incredible asset for HPU Basketball. His leadership, championship pedigree and extensive experience at Nicholl's St. will set the bar high for our program. We can't wait for his arrival!"
