(KAILUA, HI) - Amidst the cheers of Senior Day,
Abigail Wild, the sole senior tennis player for Hawaii Pacific University, took a moment to reflect on her collegiate journey, offering insights into the profound impact of tennis on her life.
"Tennis is what brought me out here to the States! It went from being a chore in my youth and something I didn't enjoy to now something I love and it wouldn't have developed to this point without college tennis," Abigail shares, expressing gratitude for the power of the sport.
Among the myriad of memories she's created during her time at HPU, one stands out vividly—the exhilarating run at Nationals in Orlando. "It was a special time where we had a lot of seniors and it was Lauren's last year. We didn't manage to win but the emotions and the thrill of it all was incredible," Abigail recalls, the excitement of the competition still very surreal.
As she bids farewell to her collegiate tennis career, Abigail extends heartfelt gratitude to those who've played pivotal roles in her journey. "Thank you so so much to the coaches that have given me the opportunity to play in the US and to play at some incredible colleges," she says, her appreciation evident in every word.
Abigail reserves a special thank you for Lauren and Hendrik, whose guidance and support illuminated her path and led her to the beautiful shores of Hawaii. "My family for always supporting me and believing in me when I didn't always and for always being there for me no matter what," she adds, her sentiments reflecting a deep sense of appreciation. With a final message to her fans, supporters, and fellow teammates. "Forever feeling fortunate for the people who've been on this journey with me and the ones I've met," she says, echoing the sentiment of a remarkable journey filled with cherished memories and enduring friendships.
Though the Senior Day match ended in a loss to UC Davis with a score of 4-1, Abigail remains undeterred as she looks ahead to the next challenge. Their next game is in Hilo against the University of Hilo on April 6th, where Abigail and her team will continue to pursue victory and create lasting memories on the courts.
