Hilo, HI – The Hawaii Pacific University women's volleyball team fought hard but ultimately fell 3-1 to Cal Poly Humboldt on Friday night at Vulcan Gym. The Sharks (0-5) secured an early lead by winning the first set 25-19, but Cal Poly Humboldt (2-1) rallied to take the next three sets 25-15, 25-18, and 25-14.
HPU started strong with a balanced attack in the opening set, hitting .148 and holding Cal Poly Humboldt to a .097 hitting percentage. However, the Lumberjacks found their rhythm in the second set, improving their offense and taking control of the match.

Cal Poly Humboldt was powered by Awelina Fakalata, who recorded 20 kills and 18 digs, and Madyn Cervellera, who contributed 14 kills. The Lumberjacks hit .248 as a team, with 56 kills and 10 service aces, putting constant pressure on HPU's defense.
HPU will look to regroup as they continue to search for their first win of the season. Despite the tough loss, the Sharks showed flashes of strong play, particularly in the opening set, and will aim to build on that momentum in their upcoming matches.
