KOHALA COAST, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University women's golf surged to the top of the leaderboard after the first round of the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate, posting a team score of 297 (+17) to hold a four-stroke advantage heading into Tuesday's final round at Waikoloa Beach Resort's Beach and Lakes Courses.
The Sharks were led by freshman Isabella Iorio, who fired a 1-over 71 to finish the day tied for first place with CSU Pueblo's Yale Lee. Kameron Kwong carded a 74 (+4) to sit in sixth, while Shuiyun He and Giuliana Rovetti followed closely with 75 (+5) and 77 (+7) rounds, respectively. Paige Sur rounded out HPU's scoring with an 80 (+10).
Competing as an individual, Yumi Sugimoto also impressed with an 80 (+10).
HPU's consistent play gave them a cushion over second-place CSU Pueblo (301, +21) and third-place Hawai'i Hilo (304, +24).
With Iorio sharing the individual lead and three Sharks inside the top 10, Hawai'i Pacific is well-positioned to capture the team title in Tuesday's final round.
