HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University Athletics is proud to announce Alex Takemura as the new head coach of HPU Softball. With nearly 30 years in education and over two decades of coaching experience, Takemura brings a strong foundation of leadership, development, and mentorship to the Sharks.

We are excited to have Alex join our HPU Athletics team," said Debbie Snell, Executive Director of Athletics. "He has been working in education and coaching here on-island for many years and brings a passion for coaching softball. His coaching experience and his desire to serve in the community is going to be great for the team and our department."

Takemura has coached high school baseball for 22 years and club softball for 14, also serving as an assistant softball coach at Chaminade University. Takemura most recently spent eight years coaching baseball at Mid-Pacific Institute, his alma mater. As a student-athlete at MPI, he was part of three state championship teams. He later returned to coach in the program, helping lead the junior varsity squad to two ILH championships.

His coaching philosophy centers around connection, community, and creating an environment where student-athletes can thrive. "I truly appreciate the opportunity that HPU has given me," said Takemura. "My purpose is to inspire students by opening their hearts and minds to the limitless possibilities that lie ahead."

Coach Takemura will guide the Sharks into the 2025–26 season with a renewed energy focused on culture, connection, and championship vision.
