HONOLULU, Hawai'i — Hawai'i Pacific split its Senior Day doubleheader with Hawai'i Hilo on Saturday, highlighted by a dominant shutout performance from Lily Pardini while honoring seniors Alexis Oshiro, Taimane Panganoran, and Maddy Gonzalez.
The Sharks opened the day with a 2-0 victory behind Pardini, who tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and keeping the Vulcans off the scoreboard.
HPU broke through in the fifth inning, manufacturing both runs. Danielle Cote drew an RBI walk to bring home the first run, and Alexis Oshiro later scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 2-0.
Despite recording just two hits, the Sharks showed patience at the plate, drawing nine walks to create scoring opportunities and secure the win.
In Game 2, Hawai'i Pacific once again struck early, plating two runs in the second inning behind RBI efforts from Taryn Hirano and Oshiro.
The Sharks added two more in the fourth inning as Hirano delivered an RBI triple before scoring on an Oshiro single, tying the game at 4-4.
Hirano led the offensive effort, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a triple, while Oshiro added two RBIs and Miquela Leopoldo drove in another run.
Hawai'i Hilo responded late, using a four-run sixth inning followed by three runs in the seventh to pull away for an 11-5 win.
Hawai'i Pacific moves to 8-34 overall following the split, closing out Senior Day with a strong performance in the opener and celebrating its senior class.
