HONOLULU - Hawai'i Pacific University (4-11, 3-6 PacWest) regained its rhythm this Saturday at The Shark Tank against Menlo College (7-9, 5-6 PacWest) this Saturday, cutting down the Oaks 58-51.
The Sharks'
Kyra Tanabe led the charge, securing 19 points with four threes and six steals. She was followed up by
Mya Hatchett, who provided 14 points and two assists. Defensively, the Sharks were led by
Alana Roberts, who grabbed 12 total rebounds, six points, and two steals. Her efforts were complemented by a great performance from
Lucia Ricci, who provided pressure and points, nailing a momentum-shifting 3-point basket, hustling three steals, and securing four defensive rebounds, tying
Alana Roberts for the team-high. Â
The Sharks came out swinging with a nine-point run before the Oaks found the board and built up a 16-8 lead by the end of the first. However, the Oaks answered in the second, nearly matching the Shark blow for blow, before going into the half with just a 10-point deficit at 32-22. While the Sharks went into the locker room feeling good, the third would worry some spectators. The Oaks made a significant comeback in the third, outscoring the Sharks by eight and cutting the lead to just two points at 39-37. The Sharks regained control with the help of 12 points from turnovers in the fourth and nine points from eight drawn personal fouls.Â
The Sharks will return to the hardwood this Tuesday as they take on Biola at 4:30 p.m. HST. That game will be available on the PacWest Network.
