Sharks Split Doubleheader at CUI

IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific Baseball showed resilience and offensive firepower over four games at Concordia University Irvine, splitting the series 2-2 in PacWest action.

Game 1 – CUI 11, HPU 3

The Sharks struck first when Christian Perez sent a solo home run over the fence in the opening inning to give HPU an early 1-0 lead. Tyler Arnold set the tone offensively, going 3-for-4 at the plate, while Brock Wirthgen added a pair of hits as HPU finished with nine total knocks.

After Concordia used a big fourth inning to create separation, the Sharks continued to compete. Blake Helsper delivered an RBI double in the sixth, and Kan Taguchi added a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit. HPU showed fight throughout, putting pressure on the bases and forcing CUI to work defensively despite the final score.

Game 2 – HPU 15, CUI 1

Hawai'i Pacific responded in dominant fashion in the nightcap. After Nick Blakeney's RBI double put the Sharks on the board in the third, HPU broke the game open with five runs in the fourth inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and aggressive baserunning.

The Sharks exploded for nine runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach. Ziah Chang had a huge performance, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. Brock Wirthgen collected three hits and scored twice, while Tyler Arnold added a two-run homer as part of a three-run day. Owen Wessel and Blake Helsper also delivered key RBI hits during the late surge.

Andrew Nykoluk earned the win with four strong shutout innings, and Jett Ah Sam closed it out as HPU rolled to its most complete performance of the series.

Game 3 – HPU 6, CUI 1

The Sharks carried that momentum into the next game behind a complete-game effort from Jayden Gabrillo. The right-hander went all nine innings, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out seven to keep CUI off balance all afternoon.

HPU manufactured runs early and added insurance late. Tyler Arnold continued his strong weekend with two hits and two RBI, including a clutch extra-base hit. Noah Hata reached base multiple times and drove in a run, while Ziah Chang contributed with a sacrifice fly and strong defensive play in the outfield. The Sharks played clean baseball and controlled the tempo throughout.

Game 4 – CUI 3, HPU 2

The series finale was a tight, back-and-forth battle. Blake Helsper and Ethan Murakoshi each recorded two hits as HPU looked to grind out another road win. Tyler Arnold once again delivered in a key moment, driving in both Sharks runs, including an RBI double in the eighth inning that briefly gave HPU a late 2-1 advantage.

Despite the loss, the Sharks competed until the final out and continued to show consistency at the plate and resilience in close games. Over the four-game stretch, HPU combined for 32 hits across its two victories and showcased depth both offensively and on the mound.

Hawai'i Pacific returns home with momentum from two decisive wins and several standout individual performances, building confidence as conference play continues.
