KAILUA, Hawaiʻi - Hawaiʻi Pacific University showed resilience and competitiveness throughout the lineup despite falling 7-0 to Cal State Fullerton on Friday afternoon at the Kailua Racquet Club.
The Titans claimed the doubles point with wins across all three courts, but the Sharks stayed close early, highlighted by a strong effort at No. 1 doubles where
Evi Roobol and
Annika Hakovirta pushed their match to a 7-5 decision. At No. 2 doubles,
Willow Dymkowski and
Tereza Noah battled before dropping a 6-4 result, while
Kayleigh Castillo and
Kaia Sperry rounded out doubles play at No. 3.
In singles action, several Sharks delivered hard-fought performances. Noah turned in one of the day's most competitive matches at No. 2 singles, taking the opening set 6-1 and forcing a super tiebreak before ultimately coming up just short. Dymkowski also earned a first-set win at No. 6 singles, showcasing her fight and composure before Cal State Fullerton rallied in the final two sets.
Roobol competed at the top of the lineup at No. 1 singles, while Castillo, Hakovirta, and
Rosa Viller Moeller each gained valuable experience against a deep Titans squad. Viller Moeller's match at No. 5 singles featured a tight first set that went to a tiebreak, underscoring the Sharks' ability to stay within striking distance.
The Sharks will return to Kailua Racquet Club next Friday as they take on Biola.Â
