HONOLULU — Hawaiʻi Pacific University put together a balanced performance Saturday afternoon, pulling away in the middle quarters to earn a 64–52 road win over hometown Chaminade in PacWest women's basketball action at McCabe Gym.
The Sharks (7-15, 6-10 PacWest) set the tone early, building a 32–21 halftime advantage behind strong defensive pressure and efficient scoring. HPU continued to control the game after the break, outscoring the Silverswords 16–14 in the third quarter before matching that output in the fourth to secure the victory.
HPU's defense was the difference, forcing 26 Chaminade turnovers that turned into 31 points for the Sharks. Hawaiʻi Pacific also held the Silverswords to 30.6 percent shooting from the field while staying composed offensively, finishing the game at 33.3 percent and knocking down timely shots when momentum threatened to swing.
The Sharks built their largest lead of 17 points late in the fourth quarter and showed poise down the stretch, converting at the free-throw line and limiting second-chance opportunities. HPU also received steady contributions across the lineup, including key scoring runs in the second quarter that helped create separation.
Chaminade (0-18, 0-14 PacWest) made a push in the final period but was unable to overcome the early deficit as Hawaiʻi Pacific closed out the game with disciplined defense and smart possessions.
The win gives the Sharks momentum as they continue PacWest play, highlighting their ability to dictate tempo, capitalize on defensive stops, and finish strong on the road.
The Sharks return to The Sharks Tank this Thursday at 4:30 against Point Loma to start their final four-game home stretch.
