Azusa Pacific Rallies Late to Defeat Sharks, 6–5

WAIPAHU, Hawai'i — Hawai'i Pacific built an early lead but Azusa Pacific scored three runs over the final four innings to take a 6–5 win Friday night at Hans L'Orange Park.

The Sharks struck first in the opening inning when Brock Wirthgen delivered an RBI single to right field, scoring Noah Hata to give HPU a 1–0 lead.

Azusa Pacific answered in the second with a two-run home run by Bryce Robinette to move ahead 2–1, but Hawai'i Pacific quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning. Hata launched a two-run home run to right field, bringing home Taydem Hashimoto and putting the Sharks back in front, 3–2.

The Cougars regained the lead in the fourth inning with a two-RBI single from Jacob Freer to make it 4–3, but HPU continued to answer. Hata drove in another run with an RBI single in the fourth, tying the game, and the Sharks moved ahead in the fifth when Nick Blakeney drew a bases-loaded walk to score Tyler Arnold and make it 5–4.

The Cougars took the lead in the eighth inning on a solo home run by Jacob Hayes before adding an insurance run in the ninth.

Hawai'i Pacific finished the game with nine hits, led by Noah Hata, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Jayden Gabrillo and Taydem Hashimoto each added two hits for the Sharks.

Matthew Brock earned the win in relief for Azusa Pacific after tossing four scoreless innings, while Andrew Miller picked up the save. Ethan Harris was charged with the loss for HPU.

Hawai'i Pacific moves to 8–11 overall following the loss.
