Women’s Soccer Falls To Grand Canyon

Phoenix, AZ (10/4/10) – On the campus of Grand Canyon University, the HPU women's soccer team was shutout by the Antelopes, 3-0. HPU falls to 2-7 overall and 2-4 in the PacWest, while GCU improves to 7-2-1 overall and 5-1-1 in conference.

Grand Canyon netted its first goal less than three minutes into the match. Rebecca Laporte chipped a ball over the outstretched hand of HPU keeper Carianne Makino (Honolulu, HI).

GCU scored its second goal in the 64th minute after being awarded a penalty kick. Michelle Carels netted the kick, then capped the scoring minutes later on a free kick from 20 yards out.

Makino and Yasmina Taketa (Honolulu, HI) combined for six saves for HPU, with Stephanie Phillips posting five saves in net for Grand Canyon.

HPU will play Grand Canyon one more time before returning home. Kickoff with the 'Lopes is set for Wednesday, October 6, at 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
