Women’s Soccer Defeats Grand Canyon In Overtime

Phoenix, AZ (10/6/10) – On the campus of Grand Canyon University, the HPU women's soccer team defeated the 'Lopes, 2-1, in overtime. HPU improves to 3-7 overall and 3-4 in the PacWest, while GCU drops to 7-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in conference.

The overtime win was HPU's first this season in four tries, as the Sea Warriors close their road trip with a victory. KaUa Wall (Kealakekua, HI) got HPU on the scoreboard with her goal in the 31st minute. She received a cross from Amber Fuller (Honolulu, HI) and scored to give HPU the first-half lead. GCU tied the match just minutes into the second half, as Jessica Scarpati scored off a free kick service from Sasha Scott.

Midway through the first overtime, HPU scored to earn the sudden victory win. Meghan Fuller (Pearl City, HI) pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area and scored to give HPU the much needed win.Chloe Maeshiro (Pearl City, HI) assisted on the play.

HPU forwardYasmina Taketa (Honolulu, HI) played the entire match in goal in place of Carianne Makino (Honolulu, HI), recording five saves in the process. Stephanie Phillips posted two saves for GCU.

HPU now returns home and will next play Dominican University on Thursday, October 14. Start time at Atherton Field is set for 3:00 p.m.
