HPU Men’s Tennis Defeats Sonoma State In West Regional

Waipahu, HI (5/6/10) – At the NCAA Division II West Regional, the HPU men's tennis team defeated Sonoma State University, 5-0. HPU advances to the National Championships to be held May 12-15 in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The match was played at the Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Tennis Complex.

HPU improves to 22-3 while Sonoma State concludes its season at 7-11. HPU won all three doubles matches en route to the win. At one doubles, Dominic Mclusky and Sebastian Bader defeated the Sonoma pair of Taylor Bianco and Connor Olsen, 9-8 (7-2). Daniel Luedi and Anton Samuilau topped Anthony Rollins and Scott Gaynor, 8-6, in two doubles, and Nikola Petrov and Aleksandar Markov won at three doubles, 8-3, over Andrew Khuri-Yakub and Quan Vu.

Petrov and Markov were the first to complete their singles matches, clinching the win for HPU. Petrov topped Olsen at the one, 6-1, 6-3, and Markov earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Bianco at two singles.

The 16-team National Championships will be hosted by the Central Florida Sports Commission and Rollins College. HPU's quarterfinal opponent is to be determined.
