HPU Women’s Basketball Takes Down UH-Hilo, Now 4-0 In Conference Play

Honolulu, HI (1/16/11) – Senior Jazzmin Awa-Williams led Hawaii Pacific to a 56-45 win over UH-Hilo Sunday night at the Neil Blaisdell Center. The Big Island product dropped a game-high 21 points on 7-11 shooting to go along with six rebounds. The comeback victory now makes HPU 10-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play. UHH drops 5-6 and 2-2 inside the Pac West.

The second half belonged to HPU, a layup by Awa-Williams with 15:49 remaining, gave the Sea Warriors the lead for good. The game remained close, however, the largest lead being 11. Shooting 40% from the field and 89% from the line bolstered HPU's second half chances. The defense was solid down the stretch, as UHH just managed 25% shooting from the field.

UH-Hilo controlled the first half, leading the entire way. The Sea Warriors found themselves down 10 points with 10:04 left in the half. HPU would make push to close the half going on a 7-0 run in the final 2:17 to trail 29-27 at the break.

Hillary Hurley led UHH with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Freshman Skye Savini had eight points, while Junior Mana Hopkins had nine.

HPU next plays four straight road games, starting January 21st against BYU-H in Laie. Tip time is set for 5:00 p.m. HPU returns home on February 2nd to host BYU-H at the Neil Blaisdell Center, starting at 5:30 p.m. The February 2nd tilt can be seen live on KWHE-TV.
