Honolulu, HI (1/21/11) - Although it took an extra five minutes, Hawaii Pacific continued on it's roll through the early season PacWest schedule. The 78-74 win upped HPU's record to 5-0 in the conference and 11-3 overall. Balanced scoring and dominant rebounding by HPU spelled problems for the home team, BYU Hawaii falls to 1-12 and 0-4 in conference.
Four Sea Warriors reached double figures, paced by Junior
Paris Gravely's 21 points. Senior
Courtney Buster was again strong in the post, tailing her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Senior
Jazzmin Awa-Williams notched 11 points, while junior Mana Hopkins had 10.
HPU was dominate early, leading by as many as 17 points in the first half. However, the Seasiders would rally and take the lead heading into the break, 40-37. With 8:25 left in the game HPU re-established a 10 point lead on a Gravely free throw. Again, BYU-H would rally and tie the game on a put back jumper by Kristen Hartley with no time remaining.
The overtime would belong to the Sea Warriors, outscoring the Seasiders 9-4, including six points from Gravely. HPU shot 60% from the field in overtime and 49% for the game.
Richelle Rieben led BYU-H with 22 points.
HPU next travels to California to take on Notre Dame de Namur on Janurary 25th, start time is set for 5:30 PST.
