Sea Warriors Win on Kam’s Night

Box Score Honolulu, HI (November 25, 2011) – On the night Hawai'i Pacific honored the memory of Kameron Steinhoff, the men's basketball team responded with a 72-65 win over Western New Mexico. Three Sea Warriors put up double figures led by Jelany White's 13 points.

The first half was a back and forth affair with HPU claiming control late. HPU led by 10 at 26-16 with 5:21 left to play. By the break, however, the Mustangs whittled the lead down to five. HPU led until the 9:54 mark of the second half when WNM took a 43-42 lead. Then, White hit one of his many big three-pointers to give the lead right back to HPU. About three and a half minutes later, HPU again trailed by one point and it was again a White three that put HPU back in front. With the game tied at 57, White again answered the bell with another three ball. Another three point hit by White put HPU up six with two minutes left and the defense was able to close the game.

White was 4-5 from three-point range, while HPU hit nine three's overall. Kyle Allen played a complete game with nine points, 12 rebounds and five assists. LaBrent Chappell scored 11 points, including 3-6 from deep. Nick Frazier had 10 points to go with three points and three steals.

HPU ups it record to 2-3 while WNM falls to 0-3. Lucio Luttrell had 25 points to lead the Mustangs.

The Sea Warriors will next host Chaminade in the PacWest opener on December 5th at 3 PM at Moanalua  High School.
