Women’s Basketball Drops Game at Horn

Box Score Honolulu, HI (December 15, 2011) – Melody Ladrido hoisted a three-pointer at the final buzzer that would have tied the game, but it rimmed out, dealing Hawai'i Pacific women's basketball its fourth defeat of the season. Although that shot would have tied the game, HPU's first half cost them. Montana State Billings escaped the Neil Blaisdell Center with a 72-69 win.

HPU fell behind 8-0 just over two minutes into the game. By the 9:04 mark of the first half, HPU closed the deficit to 17-15. However, Montana State Billings went on a run and built a lead of 15 at 34-19 with 4:45 left in the first half. HPU responded and chipped the lead down to seven at the half.

At the 12:20 mark of the second half, HPU tied the game for the first time at 41. A Ladrido layup gave HPU its biggest lead of the game at 56-48 with 6:16 left. The Yellow Jackets tied the game at 69 with: 54 left. However, an HPU turnover and MSUB going 3-3 from the foul stripe sealed the game.

Mana Hopkins led HPU with 21 points; she added six rebounds before fouling out. Skye Savini stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Mikela Thoemmes was strong in the post with 11 points and nine rebounds.
HPU outshot (44% to 39%) and out rebounded (42-32) MSUB, but turned the ball over seven more times and gave up six more three-pointers.

HPU is now 5-4 on the season while MSUB improves to 6-4. The Yellow Jackets were led by Bobbi Knudsen who scored 17 points.

The Sea Warriors next battles Western Oregon at 5 PM on Sunday at Moanalua High School.
