Box Score Honolulu, HI (December 4, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific women's basketball team won the PacWest opener against Chaminade 77-71. HPU dominated part of the game, leading by as many as 24.
Skye Savini was outstanding scoring 24 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
HPU started off sluggish in the opening half, trailing 17-9 six minutes into the game. With 9:27 left HPU took a 25-22 lead on a
Paris Gravely three pointer. The Sea Warriors then went on an 18-3 run to close the half, leading 43-25. In the second half, HPU continued to pour in the points leading 56-32 with 15:11 left in the game. Chaminade battled back however, and cut the lead to two with 3:08 left. A 5-0 mini-run gave HPU control and it held on for the win.
Mana Hopkins had another double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, she added five assists. Gravely scored 19 points on 7-10 shooting.
Taiyande Huskey had a complete game with eight points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
HPU improves to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the PacWest. Chaminade falls to 0-3 and 0-1. The 'Swords were led by Jordan Ahakuelo's 18 points.
HPU next plays Montana State-Billings on December 15th at the Neal Blaisdell Center at 5 PM.
