Honolulu, HI (February 25, 2011) – The Lady Sea Warriors set a new program record for the largest margin of victory with a 108-46 win at McCabe Gymnasium. Hawai'i Pacific had seven Sea Warriors in double figures, as no player played more than 21 minutes. The 62 point win raises HPU's record to 17-6 and 11-3 in the PacWest.
The game was never in doubt, as HPU led wire to wire and built a 10 point lead just seven minutes into the game. By the end of the first half, HPU led 54-21. Mana Hopkins and Katelyn Urquhart led HPU with 15 points each, for Urquhart it is a career high. Skye Savini had 12 points and four steals. Melody Ladrido, Taylor Craig, and Courtney Buster all had 11 points. Paris Gravely rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points to go with five steals. Urquhart led the team in rebounding with seven.
The defense was stout, limiting Chaminade to 11-35 (31%) from the floor. HPU disrupted the offense to the tune of 38 turnovers. The Sea Warriors shot 32-52 (60%) from the field and won the rebounding battle 37-18.
Jordan Ahakuelo led Chaminade with 14 points but also had eight turnovers. Chaminade falls to 1-19, 1-12.
HPU next plays Dixie State on Monday at the Neil Blaisdell Center; start time is 5:30 P.M. The game is senior night for Jazzmin Awa-Williams and Buster and can be seen live on KWHE-TV.
