Honolulu, HI (2/2/11) – Courtney Buster grabbed 19 rebounds to set a new single game record, while Hawaii Pacific earned a 77-69 win over BYU-Hawaii in women's basketball. HPU has won 13 of its last 14 games, and ups its record to 14-4 and 8-1 in the Pacific West Conference.
HPU came out of the gate fast, going up by 14 with 8:45 to play in the first half. The Sea Warriors would maintain a double-digit lead for most of the rest of the night. HPU's lead was cut to 6 with 4:19 left in the game, but was never truly challenged.
Jazzmin Awa-Williams had a game-high 18 points, while Buster had 15, Mana Hopkins had 14, and Taiyande Huskey had 10. Awa-Williams also dished out a game-high six assists and snatched a game-high four steals.
HPU again shot the basketball well, finishing 27-54. The Sea Warriors won the rebounding battle 44-34, due in large part to Buster, who eclipsed the old record of 17 rebounds set by Emily Kreutter in 2008.
Richelle Reiben and Erin Dastrup each had 15 points to lead BYU-H. Reiben was held in check, shooting just 3-16. The Seasiders fall to 1-15 and 0-7.
HPU retakes the floor on Tuesday February 8th vs. Chaminade at the Neil Blaisdell center, tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. The game can be seen live on KWHE-TV and the America One network.
