Kaneohe, HI (2/9/11) – For the second consecutive series, Breanne Patton made one run standup for the win in game one. Patton pitched seven innings while allowing only two hits. Chante Tesoro singled to start the 6th inning, was moved to second on a bunt, and stole third before scoring on an error by the third baseman. The 1-0 win over California State University- San Marcos improves Patton's record to 3-0.
The hard luck loser was Brenna Sandberg, also surrendering just two hits in the loss.
In game two, Hawai'i Pacific fell 4-3 to CSUSM. After going 728 days between home non-conference losses, HPU has lost two in four days. The series split makes the Sea Warriors 4-2 on the season, while CSUSM is now 6-2.
Melissa Kirby got the ball in game two, pitching seven innings allowing four runs, although just one was earned. The loss drops Kirby to 1-2 on the year. Sandberg was again solid, limiting HPU to five hits.
With the game tied at one in the third inning, Maile Kim hit a two-run homer to give HPU the lead. However, CSUSM tacked on three runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined to take a 4-3 lead. The Sea Warriors had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, but a one out triple by Tesoro was squandered as her teammates could not bring her home.
HPU next hosts Azusa Pacific University on Saturday for a doubleheader at Howard A. Okita Field, first pitch is set for noon.
