Honolulu, HI (2/8/11) – In a historic win, Hawaii Pacific defeated Chaminade 71-29 to remain in first place in the PacWest. The 55-point win is the largest in school history, and holding an opponent to 29 points is also a record. HPU moves to 15-4 overall and 9-1 in conference play.
HPU led from the start, a Skye Savini jumper made it 14-0 with 13:08 left to play in the half. As the teams headed to the locker room, HPU led 37-10. The Sea Warrior defense did not give up a field goal until the 10:50 mark of the first half. HPU kept up the intensity in the second half, starting on a 12-2 run.
Every Sea Warrior played, with 12 different girls scoring. Savini lead the way with 12 points, while Paris Gravely and Jazzmin Awa-Williams each had 10. Courtney Buster had a game-high seven rebounds, and Gravely also had six steals.
HPU's defense held Chaminade to 10-45 (22%) from the field for the game, and forced 25 turnovers. The Sea Warriors won the rebounding battle 45-29.
Kayci Will and Jamie Higa each had 6 points for Chaminade, who falls to 1-14 and 1-7.
The Sea Warriors now travel to Hilo on Friday to take on the Vulcans at 5 p.m.
