Kaneohe, HI (March 13, 2011) – After a twelve-day rain soaked layoff, Hawai'i Pacific won game one 2-0, but dropped game two by the same score. Breanne Patton was again masterful on the mound, spinning another complete game shutout. Patton is now 8-0, with seven shutouts on the season.
HPU got all the runs Patton would need in the third. With one out, Chante Tesoro and Kozy Toriano singled. After a stolen base by Toriano, HPU had runners at second and third. Maile Kim knocked in her team-high 16th run of the year on a groundout. Caira Pires followed by reaching on an error to round out the scoring in game one.
Patton scattered seven hits, while striking out four. Toriano led the offense with two hits.
In game two, HPU was unable to solve Amber Waracka who allowed only two hits for the Vulcans. Melissa Kirby was the tough luck loser for the Sea Warriors, giving up two runs over six innings. Tesoro and Laine Shikuma accounted for the HPU hits, including Shikuma's first extra base hit of the season.
HPU is now 12-4 overall and 4-2 in the PacWest, UH-Hilo is 9-6, 6-2.
The Sea Warriors retake the diamond on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader against Faulkner University at Howard A. Okita Field; first pitch is at 1 P.M.
