Brisbane, CA (March 27, 2011) – For the sixth time this season Hawai'i Pacific has split a doubleheader, all the losses have come in the second game. Today, the Sea Warriors won game one via the mercy rule 8-0, and fell in the second game 8-0 in seven innings. HPU is now 18-6 overall and 8-4 in the PacWest.
Five innings was enough in game one for the Sea Warriors to make a statement. Breanne Patton started the scoring in the second inning with a leadoff home-run. HPU poured it on in the third, scoring seven more times. HPU benefited from walks and errors in the inning, but got three big hits. Caira Pires had a RBI single as Celina Garces and Chante Tesoro each had run generating doubles.
Patton was again mistake-free on the mound, giving up one hit in five innings. Patton is now 12-0 on the season. Garces led the team with two RBI and a run scored. This was the fourth game of the season that HPU was able to end in the fifth inning.
In game two, Sierrah Garcia shutdown HPU. The Sea Warriors only recorded four hits, two of them by game one winner Patton. AAU took a 3-0 lead in the third, and it remained that way until the seventh inning when AAU scored five to put the game out of reach. Melissa Kirby gave up 14 hits in seven innings allowing eight runs, seven of them earned.
HPU will play Dominican tomorrow at 11 A.M. PST at Red Hills Community Field in San Anselmo, CA.
