Kaneohe, HI (April 10, 2011) – Ashley Valine limited Chaminade to one run in game two as the Sea Warrior offense took off in the mercy-rule shortened five inning game 8-1. The first game was much closer, as HPU railed for the 7-5 win. HPU, the region's fourth ranked team, is now 28-9 and 14-4 in the PacWest.

Breanne Patton got the start in game one and seemed to be cruising along, as HPU was leading 3-1 in the fifth inning. In the sixth, Chaminade struck for four runs to take a 5-3 lead. Undeterred, HPU mounted a late game rally and scored four of their own runs in the bottom of the fifth. Caira Pires tripled home Maile Kim to start the scoring. Patton then doubled home Pires to tie the game. Nicole Morrow singled in the go-ahead run, and then Kozy Toriano gave HPU an insurance run driving in Morrow.     

Patton extended her record to 18-1 on the season giving up four earned runs in the complete game. Chante Tesoro paced the offence from the leadoff spot going 3-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Kim, Pires and Patton each had two hits. Six Sea Warriors drove in a run, including two from Pires.

HPU went ahead 1-0 in the first inning of game two, but really seized control in the third scoring four times to lead 5-0. Kim singled to center scoring two runs with one out; Pires then doubled leading to Patton doubling home Pires and Kim. HPU would score twice more in the fourth inning to lead 7-0. After a Chaminade run in the fourth, HPU ended the game with two runs in the fifth; including the game clinching RBI single from Toriano.

Valine was masterful giving up one run on five hits moving to 5-1 on the season. Kim was 2-2 with a run scored and four RBI. Tesoro scored four times, and added two hits.

HPU next hosts BYU-Hawaii for a PacWest doubleheader on Saturday at Howard A. Okita Field at noon.
