Patton Wins 20th Game, HPU Swamps Seasiders

Laie, HI (April 18, 2011) – Hawaii Pacific swept the PacWest road doubleheader against BYU-Hawai'i with both games being stopped early due to the mercy rule. Breanne Patton went to 20-1 on the year with an 8-0 shutout in game one. The offense produced double-digit runs in the 10-2 victory in game two.

In the first game HPU's offense was consistent, scoring two runs in four straight innings. Caira Pires knocked in the first run in the third inning. Malie Kim hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to give HPU the eight run margin needed for the game to be called. Kim now has six homeruns, leading the team. HPU recorded 12 hits in the game, seven different Sea Warriors hit safely.

Patton pitched six scoreless innings allowing four hits and striking out seven. Kim went 3-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Kozy Toranio, Patton and Erin Fujita each had two hits.

Ashley Valine started in game two and received instant support. The HPU offense put four runs on the board in each of the first two innings. The Seasiders made it an 8-2 game in the top of the sixth. However, after a RBI hit by Brittany Fenumiai HPU finished the game when Celina Garces scored on a wild pitch.

Twelve Sea Warriors recorded hits in game two, including two each from Tajia Acierto, Patton and Garces. Valine gave up one earned run in six innings of work tallying three strikeouts.

HPU is now 32-9 overall and 18-4 in the PacWest and remains 32 percentage points out of first place. The Sea Warriors play a PacWest doubleheader on Friday against Chaminade at Palolo Recreational Field starting at noon.
