Waiphau, HI (May 1, 2011) – On the final day of the season Hawai'i Pacific's offense was explosive in sweeping the doubleheader from Academy of Art. HPU used a walk-off sacrifice fly in game one to win 12-11 and rolled in game two 22-3. HPU closes the season winners of six straight games with an overall record of 26-21 and 20-12 in the PacWest.
In game one, HPU fell behind 6-0 after two innings. The Sea Warriors would score twice in the next three innings to tie the game up after the fifth inning. Lanan Rice-Kashima continued to swing a hot, after driving in six runs yesterday; he doubled home two runs in the third. HPU executed the fundamentals on offense by getting sacrifice flies in the fourth and fifth innings. In the seventh inning, the Urban Knights scored five times to lead 11-6. The Sea Warriors came back again with five of their own in the bottom of the seventh highlighted by a three run triple by Les Akeo. Taylor Hill and Peter Ibanez each worked a scoreless inning to set the stage for the bottom of the ninth. Jordan Rego led off by getting hit by a pitch, Max Newman singled and Rylan Moriahra singled to right to load the bases with no outs. After Rego was cut down at home on a fielder's choice, Blake Amaral hit a foul ball to the second baseman in short right field and Newman was able to tag up for the win.
Ibanez moved to 3-2 on the season with the win. Newman led team on offense going 3-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Wade Tamaru also had three hits and scored twice while Rice-Kashima recorded two hits, runs and RBI in the win.
There was no need for late game dramatics in game two as HPU scored 22 runs in the first five innings. Technically, it was a come from behind victory as HPU trailed 2-0 after the top of the first. Sergio Contreras got the win in his final appearance as a Sea Warrior pitching seven innings while allowing three runs and striking out five.
Amaral, Chad Bolibol, Kale Sumner, David Greenstein and Rego each had a three hit game. Jordan Oshiro added two hits with three RBI and a run scored. Bolibol scored four runs and drove in five; he was a triple short of the cycle including his first career home run. Greenstein, Jordan Inamasu and Rego each had three RBI.
