Women’s Basketball Turned Back

Saint George, UT (January 21, 2012) – The Hawaii Pacific women's basketball team dropped a PacWest road matchup against the Red Storm of Dixie State College, 80-71. Mana Hopkins again led the Sea Warriors with 18 points.

The Sea Warriors and the Red Strom settled nothing in the first half. Both teams had short lived six point leads, but neither team took control in the back and forth first half. By the break, the game was tied at 38. Ten seconds into the second half, the Red Storm took the lead, and they wouldn't look back. With 6:06 to play Dixie State built a 16 point lead. HPU reduced the lead to seven on a Hopkins three-pointer with 26 seconds left, but time would run out on the Sea Warriors.

Taiyande Huskey poured in 16 points on 5-10 shooting and 6-7 from the line. Huskey added six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Paris Gravely knocked down three three's on her way to 12 points. Susannah Walmsley chipped in with eight points and six rebounds.

HPU continues its road trip on Tuesday against Grand Canyon at 4:30 PM.
