Men's Golf Cards Strong Showing in First Two Rounds of Dennis Rose

Waikoloa, HI (October 29, 2012)- With 36 holes of the Dennis Rose Invitational complete, the Hawai'i Pacific men's golf team finds itself in fourth place, out of the nine team field, shooting a team score of 607.

James Fawssett led the way for the Sea Warriors with a two round score of 145, good enough for third overall, just five shots off the lead. Junior Ian Boat also landed on the top ten leader board averaging a 75 for the first two rounds.

While many golfers had trouble with the windy conditions, Fawssett had great day off the tee repeatedly hitting fairways and minimizing his mistakes. Sophomore Travis Miller, who carded a 152 good enough for 17th, struggled a bit with the putter but followed a birdie chip on the 17th hole by draining a 10 foot eagle putt on the 18th on his way to a second round 74.

The Sea Warriors lineup was rounded out by Jayce Yoshida who shot a 161 and Andy Rodby who carded a 170. Rodby, who shot a 74 on the final day of last year's tournament, shaved six strokes off his first round score and commented on his second round improvement, “I struggled to hit the ball but my short game allowed me to chip in twice and salvage multiple pars.” Yoshida shared similar sentiments as Rodby, “I struggled with the wind off the tee, but worked all day around the greens. The birdie on 17 really helped my round.”

The Sea Warriors are a mere seven shots behind third place CSU-East Bay and only 11 behind second place Simon Fraser, with host Hawai'i-Hilo holding a commanding 20 shot lead.

HPU hits the links again tomorrow to close out the last 18 holes of the Dennis Rose Invitational.
