Box Score Honolulu, HI (February 11, 2012) – The Hawai'i Pacific women's basketball team came out firing and overwhelmed the visiting Penguins of Dominican University by a score of 111-43. The 111 points is the most in the history of HPU women's basketball. Senior
Paris Gravely also left her name in the record book with six made three-pointers, tying the school record.
The game was not in doubt for long, after an opening three-pointer by Dominican, it was all Sea Warriors. By the 11:53 mark of the first half, HPU led 23-5. HPU led by as many as 37 in the first half and took a 54-20 lead to the break. HPU scored 57 points in the second half and won by 68, 111-43.
Gravely led all scorers with 31 points, she shot 10-15 from the floor, including 6-9 from deep. Four other Sea Warriors also scored in double figures. Mana Hopkins had a huge game with 18 points, 17 rebounds, and seven assists.
Susannah Walmsley added 16 points with six rebounds.
Melody Ladrido had 14 points on 6-9 shooting.
Taiyande Huskey had 10 points, nine rebounds, and five steals. Brittney Hale and
Kathryn Tolbert each had eight points while
Nicole Fenumiai had seven assists.
HPU shot 51% (39-77) from the floor while holding DUC to 26% (16-61). HPU forced 29 turnovers while committing just 10. HPU did damage from deep, going 12-30 (40%) as opposed to DUC who went 2-16 (13%).
Gravely's six three-pointers is the most by any Sea Warrior since Ashley Jenkins hit six against Angelo State in 2007. HPU's 111 points is the most since HPU scored 108 against Chaminade in 2011.
The Sea Warriors improve to 12-10 overall and 6-6 in the PacWest. Dominican falls to 3-19, 2-10.
HPU will play its final home game on Friday against Notre Dame de Namur at McKinley High School at 5 PM. HPU will honor seniors Hopkins, Gravely, Huskey, and Fenumiai.
