Carson, CA (February 22, 2012) – The 22nd ranked Hawai'i Pacific softball team (6-2) stumbled against 20th ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills (15-2) today in HPU's first mainland games of the season. HPU lost the first game 3-2 and the second game 5-3.
Despite putting up two runs in the first game, HPU was no-hit. Even without a hit for HPU, the game came down to the last frame. HPU got single runs in the first and sixth innings, while CSUDH scored in the first and third. With the game tied, CSUDH posted three hits in the bottom of the seventh for the walk off win.
Chante Tesoro and
Keila Elderts scored the HPU runs.
Breanne Patton was the tough luck loser, giving up two earned runs in six and a third innings.
CSUDH got a second walk off win in game two when the Toros' plated two runs in the bottom of the 9th inning. After trailing 3-0 in the first inning, HPU battled back to tie the game in the sixth inning. HPU's big inning was highlighted by a RBI double by
Nicole Morrow and a RBI single from
Erin Fujita.
Elderts,
Toni Baysa, and
Chanelle Senas scored HPU's runs and
Charisse Tanabe picked up a RBI. Fujita led the team with three hits.
Melissa Kirby gave up three earned runs in eight and a third innings of work.
HPU retakes the field tomorrow against Azuza Pacific University for a doubleheader in Azusa, CA at 4 PM PST.
