Women’s Basketball Takes Hot Streak on Road

San Francisco, CA (February 21, 2012) – The trip across the Pacific didn't cool down the Hawai'i Pacific women's basketball team (14-10, 8-6). HPU avenged an earlier lost to Academy of Art (15-8, 11-4) with an 88-74 win on Tuesday in San Francisco.

HPU's offense has been clicking during its three game winning streak, averaging 92 points per game. Tuesday was no exception as HPU hit 10-22 (46%) three-pointers and shot 49% (32-65) for the game from the field.

Paris Gravely continued her torrid pace over the last four games, Gravely scored 22 against Art U in a homecoming game for the Fairfield, CA native. Gravely has averaged 24 points per game over the last four contests. After only scoring three points in HPU's January loss to Art U, Susannah Walmsley scored a career-high 20 points in the HPU triumph. Mana Hopkins narrowly missed another double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Taiyande Huskey distributed eight assists while scoring 10 points herself. Melody Ladrido came off the bench to score 13. Nicole Fenumiai had a complete game with six points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.

HPU led the game from wire to wire. Four and a half minutes into the game HPU led by 10 at 16-6. Art U would cut the lead to four a couple times, but HPU pulled away leading by 17 at the half. The Sea Warriors were never seriously challenged in the second half.

HPU continues its Bay Area road trip on Thursday against Dominican in San Rafael at 5:30 PM PST.
