Box Score Honolulu, HI (February 6, 2012) – The Hawai'i Pacific women's basketball team held a 42-23 lead at halftime, but as dominate as HPU was in the first half, Dixie State was just as controlling in the second. The Red Strom escaped the Neal Blaisdell Center with a 78-75 win.
HPU had a chance late to potentially send the game into overtime;
Taiyande Huskey drove to the basket with less than three seconds to play and HPU down three. She made the layup, but HPU didn't have enough time to push the envelope further.
For much of the second half HPU was hamstrung with foul trouble. HPU lost intensity on defense and in rebounding with three of its key players, Mana Hopkins,
Kathryn Tolbert and
Nicole Fenumiai, all having four fouls.
The first half was very kind to the Sea Warriors.
Paris Gravely hit a three-pointer to give HPU a 15-12 lead with 13:00 left. HPU then went on a 16-4 run over the next seven minutes. Gravely was unstoppable in the first half, hitting four threes and tallying 22 points. Gravely later put HPU up 39-20 with 3:35 to play in the opening half.
