Turlock, CA (March 30, 2012) – The Hawai'i Pacific softball (21-12) team beat 16
th ranked Cal State Monterey Bay (23-8) in the opening game of the Mizuno Tournament of Champions by a 1-0 count. HPU will have little time to celebrate as they play two more games today.
HPU again rode the strong right arm of
Breanne Patton. Patton, now 14-4, gave up five hits in seven innings of work against a high powered offense. HPU only had four hits on offense, but executed fundamentals to score what would be the winning run.
Chante Tesoro and
Keila Elderts each drew walks to lead off the game. After a fly out,
Nicole Morrow was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out.
Caira Pires then hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Tesoro.
Elderts,
Maile Kim,
Erin Fujita and
Celina Garces all had hits for HPU. Tesoro had a stolen base and a run scored.
HPU will now face Humboldt State University at 4:15 PM
