Turlock, CA (March 31, 2012) – The Hawai'i Pacific softball team (22-14) lost against University of California-San Diego 3-2 in a soggy game in Turlock, CA. It was a seventh inning run for UCSD (27-13) that sunk the Sea Warriors, during the seventh the game was delayed for three hours and seven minutes due to rain.
Runs were at a premium in this one, it was scoreless until the 20th ranked Tritons made it 2-0 in the fourth inning. HPU would tie the game in the sixth on an RBI single from
Chante Tesoro and an error would allow another Sea Warrior run to score. The Tritons scratched out a run the top of the seventh and had the bases loaded with two out when the rain came. Over three hours later,
Melissa Kirby got the final out, but HPU was shutdown in the bottom of the seventh.
Kirby gave up three runs in seven innings of work. She worked in and out of trouble, stranding ten base runners. Tesoro led the team with two hits.
HPU will play Cal State East Bay today at 4:15 PM in Turlock.
