Softball Falls to Cal St. East Bay at TOC

Turlock, CA (March 31, 2012) – The Hawai'i Pacific softball team couldn't get the big hit in a 6-4 loss to Cal State Easy Bay at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions. HPU lost despite out hitting CSUEB 11-4.

HPU stranded 13 runners in the game and left the bases loaded in the second, third, and fourth innings. Still, the game was tied heading to the seventh inning, but for the second time today the opposition scored to win the game.

HPU trailed 4-0 after two and a half innings, but would get on the board in the third. It was a bases loaded walk to Dorian Acierto that gave HPU its first run. The Sea Warriors would then tie the game in the fourth with three runs. Chanelle Senas and Keila Elderts both tripled to score the first run of the inning. Maile Kim then drove in Elderts on a double to left and later in the inning Celina Garces had an RBI single.

Melissa Kirby gave up six runs (five earned) in seven innings of work. Kim led HPU with three hits, Tesoro, Elderts, and Erin Fujita each had two.

HPU will wrap-up the Tournament of Champions tomorrow with at least one game, starting at noon.
