Patton Wins 18th Game in Softball Split

Waipahu, HI (April 15, 2012) – Hawai'i Pacific softball (28-18, 20-10) ace Breanne Patton recorded her 18th win of the season in HPU's 7-1 game one victory over Chaminade University (15-26, 9-19). Chaminade turned the tables in game two, winning 6-0 in a PacWest doubleheader played at Central Oahu Regional Park. The game two loss snaps a 59 game win streak against Chamiade dating back to 2005.

Patton held Chaminade to just one unearned run in seven innings of work in the game one victory. The senior hurler worked out of trouble all game, stranding 10 Silverswords. With today's performance, the reining PacWest Pitcher of the Year's ERA drops to 2.07.

The efficient HPU offense, which scored seven times on seven hits, kicked it into gear in the fourth inning with the game still scoreless. Catcher Nicole Morrow hit a one-out solo home run to draw first blood. Morrow continues to lead the club with 30 RBI.

In the fifth, a Keila Elderts bunt turned into a base clearing two-run round tripper. Thanks to a Chaminade throwing error, the speedy Elderts came all the way around to score along with Chante Tesoro, who reached base on a separate error.

Two walks to open the inning came back to score in the sixth on a two-out two RBI single from Brittany Fenumiai. A walk would also benefit the Sea Warriors in the seventh inning when Elderts tripled home Tesoro who led off with a walk. Two batters later, Morrow drove in Elderts on a sacrifice fly to make to it a 7-0 game.

Chaminade scored a run in the seventh, but it was too little too late.

HPU had no answers in game two as they were shutout for the fifth time this season. HPU had six hits, but they came if five different innings.

Starter Melissa Kirby was touched up for five runs (four earned) in four innings of work. Patton came in as a reliever and gave up another run in three innings.

Elderts had three hits in the doubleheader, Tesoro and Caira Pires each had two.

HPU will next travel to Hilo for a doubleheader against the Vulcans on April 28th at 1 PM.
