WAIPAHU, HI (February 18, 2013)-
John Albert scattered six hits over six and two-thirds innings while only giving up two runs as the Hawai'i Pacific (7-3) Baseball Team defeated Northwest Nazarene (5-4) by the score of 9-3 in the final game of the series. The win gives HPU its second series victory in as many chances.
HPU got on the board early on a RBI triple by
Chad Bolibol in the first inning. With the game tied at one, HPU retook the lead with two runs in the fourth powered by RBI from
Lanan Rice-Kashima and
Tyler Tokunaga. HPU would add another run in the sixth inning, but it was matched by NNU in the top of the seventh to make it a 4-2 game.
In the bottom of the seventh, HPU would put the game away scoring five runs off a wave of Crusader pitchers. The Sea Warriors drew a trio of walks before
Russell Doi drove a base hit through the left side of a drawn in infield for a pair of RBI.
Keanu Kapana would clear the bases two batters later with HPU's fourth triple of the day. A Tokunaga RBI single added one more insurance run for the Sea Warriors who would enjoy a 9-2 lead after the inning.
Albert, who started the season in the bullpen, was strong for the Sea Warriors only giving up two earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts.
Nick Woodward was good in relief for HPU, pitching two and one-third innings giving up one run for the save.
Kale Sumner continued his hot start going 2-4 with 3 runs. Doi went 2-5 with a run and an RBI.
The Sea Warriors kick off the PacWest season on the Big Island with a four-game series against UH-Hilo on February 28th. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
