WAIPAHU, HI (March 16, 2013) - The Hawaii Pacific Men's Tennis Team (8-2) returned from its mainland road trip to defeat the Washington University in St. Louis (3-5) in a 9-0 sweep. Eighth ranked Petr Michnev remained hot for the Sea Warriors, beating no. 3 Adam Putterman in first singles.

The Sea Warriors opened with a sweep in doubles play with Michnev and partner Gerald Moretti winning their match in a tight 9-8 battle.

The route was on once singles play began with all Sea Warriors winning in straight sets with the exception of Yann Renault who grinded out a 6-7, 6-3, 10-7 comeback victory.

Head Coach Hendrik Bode commented on his team's effort in their first home match in three weeks, "It was a good performance overall today. After getting back from a long road trip without much rest our guys did a good job getting their energy back in singles, after they started a bit slow in doubles.

Bode thinks the Sea Warriors are still getting better,” I think we keep improving with every match and they keep gaining confidence with every win, which is really good to see knowing how much work all of them have put in up to this point.”

HPU has eight more matches in March. “We have a lot of matches coming up, so we need to make sure everyone recharges and gets their bodies back to a 100%, so they can keep performing the way they have up until this point." 

The HPU men return to action on Monday when they face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at Central Oahu Regional Park; the match is set to begin at 10:00 AM.
