Softball Dominates Doubleheader

LAIE, HI (March 29, 2013)- Freshman Alysia Maddison hit a two-run home run and pitched a three-hit shutout as the Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (13-11, 6-8) took both games of the doubleheader against BYU-Hawaii (5-29, 2-16). The Sea Warriors took game one, 10-3 and game two, 8-0.

Kristen Caskey got the call on the mound in game one and pitched well. The freshman spread eight hits over seven innings while striking out two batters.

Caskey had plenty of run support as the HPU bats struck early, scoring five runs in the first two innings. Erin Fujita, Chante Tesoro, Caskey and Dorian Acierto all had RBI base-hits in the four-run second inning to give HPU a commanding 5-0 lead.

The Seasiders would get on the board in the sixth with three runs, but Caskey finished strong setting down eight of the last nine batters she faced to close the game, picking up her team-high sixth win.

In game two, Maddison shined on the mound and at the plate for HPU. The freshman only allowed four base runners in five innings of work and crushed a two-run bomb to left center in the fourth to help her cause.

Keila Elderts worked a bases loaded walk in the fifth to push the HPU lead to 8-0, securing the five inning mercy rule victory for the Sea Warriors.

Elderts had another big day at the plate going 5-7 with four RBI and two runs scored. Tesoro added four runs scored to go along with her two RBI. Sea Warrior hitters worked 13 walks in the doubleheader.

The two teams face each other again on Saturday, this time at Howard A. Okita Field. First pitch os scheduled for 12:00 PM.
