Kaneohe, HI (March 8, 2013)- Senior catcher
Nicole Morrow had a career day, picking up six hits and seven RBI as the Hawai'i Pacific (8-6, 1-3) softball team split a doubleheader with visiting California Baptist (9-8,3-5). The Sea Warriors took game one 6-2, while the Lancers rallied to win game two 11-6.
HPU jumped out to an early lead in game one racking up five runs on five singles in the second inning. CBU managed two runs in the top of the fourth, but HPU answered with another run in the bottom half thanks to a Lancer throwing error.
Senior pitcher
Melissa Kirby shut down the Lancers the rest of the way spreading seven hits over seven innings while only allowing two run on the mound for the Sea Warriors. The savvy veteran effectively mixed her pitches, striking out three batters without allowing a single base on balls. The win moves Kirby to 4-2 on the season.
In game two the Lancer bats would come alive. CBU managed 18 hits off Sea Warrior pitchers in the late game. For much of the game it was Morrow keeping HPU in it, ripping a two-RBI double in the second, a two-RBI triple in the third and a pair of RBI-singles in the fourth and sixth innings. Despite scoring six runs, the Sea Warriors left nine runners on-base in game two.
Morrow finished the day going 6-7 from the plate to go along with the seven RBI.
Keila Elderts would finish 3-6 from the dish with a walk and four runs scored. Freshman
Alysia Maddison was saddled with the loss in game two.
The Sea Warriors return to action tomorrow to finish the four game series with Cal Baptist at Howard A. Okita Field. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
