FRESNO, CA (April 26, 2012) – It was a tale of two games for the Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (30-18, 19-15) and both were blowouts. HPU walloped host Fresno Pacific (25-19, 16-14) 12-0 in game one, but had the tables turned in game two as the Sunbirds prevailed 13-2.
Derek Nakasato propelled HPU in game one from the plate as starter Joshua “Rico” Garcia was dealing on the mound. The sophomore Nakasato went 4-5 from the dish with four runs, four RBI, a walk, two doubles and a home run. Garcia was virtually unhittable; the freshman threw a complete game shutout while giving up just three hits and one walk. He struck out three.
Game one was never in question as the Sea Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
Jordan Inamasu had the big blow, a two RBI single to right field.
The Sea Warriors would tack on single runs in the third, seventh and ninth innings.
The Kelly Green and Columbia Blue would hang another crooked number on the board in the fifth inning. A bases clearing double by Nakasato would highlight a five-run frame.
Tyler Tokunaga,
Wade Tamaru, and Inamasu each had three hits in the romp.
Game two was almost the polar opposite for HPU.
Early on the game was close.
Marvin Campbell doubled home Tokunaga and Inamasu to tie the game at three in the top of the third inning.
FPU would answer with six runs in the bottom of the third; the Sea Warriors would not recover.
Tamaru was solid at the plate again in game two going 2-3. Tokunaga was 1-2.
Four HPU pitchers pitched one or two innings and each gave up a minimum of two runs.
HPU will close the season tomorrow with another doubleheader against Fresno Pacific at 12:00 PM PST.
