TURLOCK, CA (April 6, 2013) – The Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (20-14) moved to .500  in pool play of the Mizuno Tournament of Champions after a six-run sixth inning helped them defeat Notre Dame de Namur (19-15)  9-5. With two victories early on Saturday, HPU is now 2-2 in pool play.

The Sea Warriors struck early after Chante Tesoro opened the bottom of the first with a single up the middle, she stole second and came home on an Alysia Maddison RBI single.

Maddison got the start for HPU and was sharp for two innings before the Argonauts struck for three runs in the third.
HPU answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half.

A run by NDNU in the fourth and a no-out jam in the fifth chased Maddison, who was relieved by senior Melissa Kirby. The senior limited the damage and craftily pitched her way out of the inning leaving HPU with a 5-3 deficit.

As in game one of the day, the HPU bats came in to life in the bottom of the sixth, this time to the tune of six runs.

HPU received RBI singles from Toni Baysa, Keila Elderts and Maddison in the sixth, as well as an RBI fielder's choice from Erin Fujita to take a 9-5 lead.

Kirby struck out two of the four Argonaut batters she faced in the final frame to secure the victory for the Sea Warriors.

While Maddison only made it through four innings on the mound, she had a huge game at the plate going 3-4 registering four, of the seven, HPU RBI. Elderts was 2-4 from the plate with an RBI and a run scored in the victory.

HPU has won the first two games of the day with a nightcap against Cal State Stanislaus tonight at 6:00 PM PST.
