TURLOCK, CA (April 6, 2013) – The Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (21-14) won its third game of the day by battering host Cal State Stanislaus (13-26) 15-3 in the final game of pool play at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions. The win places HPU second in its pool and will advance to the Silver Bracket on Sunday.
HPU controlled this game from the outset; HPU posted three runs in the top of the first inning. HPU had four hits in the inning, including an RBI triple from
Keila Elderts.
The Sea Warriors would lead 5-0 after scoring two unearned runs in the second inning. A costly error by the Stanislaus pitcher with runners on the corners plated one run for HPU.
Caira Pires drove in the other run of the frame on a sacrifice fly.
CSUS scored three runs in the bottom of the second to get back into the game.
HPU went right back at it offensively and added two more runs in the top of the third. Elderts picked up another RBI with a single, but the big blow was from
Alysia Maddison who had a two-out RBI double.
HPU essentially ended the game in the fourth inning, striking for eight more runs. HPU had five hits in the inning, but CSUS contributed to the big inning with subpar defense. HPU benefited from two errors, a wild pitch and a passed ball in the inning.
HPU led 15-3 in the fourth inning and recorded the final six outs for the mercy rule win.

Kristen Caskey got her 11th win of the season, and second of the day.
Dorian Acierto had a huge game going 4-4 with two runs and a RBI. Elderts had three RBI on three hits and scored a pair of runs. Caskey helped her own cause with two hits and a RBI.
HPU plays Cal State Monterey Bay at 11:00 AM on Sunday. If HPU wins, it will play UC San Diego at 1:00 PM. If HPU wins that game, it would play the winner of UH-Hilo/Central Washington at 3:15 PM.
