TURLOCK, CA (April 7, 2013) – The Mizuno Tournament of Champions has come to an end for the Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (22-15) after losing 2-0 in the semifinal game of the Silver Bracket to UC San Diego (24-17). HPU finishes the TOC with a 4-3 record.
After closing out the first game of the day,
Melissa Kirby got the start for HPU in game two and pitched well. The senior gave up just two runs on seven hits while striking out three. The Tritons managed just one hit off Kirby over the final three innings.
UCSD managed two runs in the third inning.
The Sea Warriors threatened in the sixth inning after
Alysia Maddison drew a walk and moved to third on a
Caira Pires single.
Lauren Beard worked a two-out walk to load the bases for HPU, but the Sea Warriors failed to push the needed runs across and fell 2-0.
With hits at a premium,
Sharae Esprecion led the way getting on base twice for the Sea Warriors in four plate appearances.
After an 11 game road trip, HPU now returns to Oahu to face cross-town rival Chaminade at Central Oahu Regional Park on April 11th. First pitch of the double header is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
