HONOLULU, HI (May 3, 2013) – Hawai'i Pacific sophomore softball player
Keila Elderts has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Softball Team. The HPU softball team remains ranked ninth in the region in the latest regional rankings.
Elderts is outstanding in centerfield for the Sea Warriors and she is having a monster season at the plate. After a good freshman year she improved in every category, including raising her batting average over 60 points. This year she is hitting .435 with 47 runs, eight doubles, five triples, 26 RBI and 21 steals. She is leading the league in batting average and ranks in the top five in the PacWest in hits, runs, and triples.
The Temecula, CA product has excelled in the classroom with a 3.5 GPA in mathematics.
The Capital One Academic Softball Teams are nominated and voted on by the country's sports information directors (CoSIDA). Elderts will now be placed on the ballot for Academic All-American that will be voted on next week.
Static on the Regional Front
This week's NCAA West Region Rankings were the same for HPU as it has been the past two weeks, ninth. The Sea Warriors need to finish in the top eight to qualify for regionals. HPU has two final games tomorrow against UH-Hilo on the Big Island. The games will carry some weight with the regional committee as UH-Hilo is ranked 7th in the region. The NCAA will have its selection show on Sunday.
